Stars’ Shine At Care Providers’ National Awards Ceremony

Two care homes and nine care sector workers have been recognised at a national ceremony organised this week (14 November) by Shaw healthcare.

More than 200 people gathered at The Forest of Arden Hotel near Birmingham for Shaw healthcare’s annual Star Awards. The award programme aims to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding staff members from amongst Shaw’s 4,000 plus strong workforce, based at more than 80 care facilities across the UK.

Warmere Court care home in Yapton, West Sussex won the ‘Carehome.co.uk Award’ for receiving the highest rating of all Shaw care homes on the well-known rating website, while Springbank in Brentry, Bristol, won the ‘Champion Service’ award for being ranked the Shaw service with the best business performance over the last 12 months.

In the individuals awards, Liz Thomas from Cartref care home in Hay-on-Wye, a care worker who works as an ‘activity champion’ for people living with dementia, received the ‘Inspirational Individual’ award for her commitment to Shaw’s values of wellness, happiness and kindness. The manager of Pembroke Dock care home in west Wales, Andy Davis, was presented with the ‘Outstanding Management Contribution Award’, while Julie Dooley from Shaw’s Lancum House care home in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire was named ‘Administrator of the Year’.

All winners were nominated by colleagues and selected by a panel of Shaw healthcare’s executive team. Care homes and staff who were shortlisted also received recognition.

Jeremy Nixey, chief executive of Shaw healthcare, said: “The Shaw Star Awards has become such an important fixture in the annual calendar. We are always delighted to be able to recognise the hard work of so many staff members in various roles and from across the Shaw healthcare family.

“A lot has changed in the care industry since we launched the Shaw Star Awards in 2008, but what remains is a dedicated and compassionate workforce that strives to improve the lives of each and every one of our service users.

“Picking winners is never easy and just goes to show the quality of staff in our ranks. The ceremony is a great opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of our staff and recognise those who have gone above and beyond with these award wins.”
