Care Home Residents Help Set World Record on Cash for Kids Day

Local Meallmore care homes threw open their doors and their hearts on 30 April, joining thousands of businesses and communities across the UK in supporting Cash for Kids Day and helping to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title.

Colleagues, residents and family members at care homes across the group rolled up their sleeves and embraced the spirit of the day with enthusiasm, organising a range of fun and creative activities to raise as much money as possible for Cash for Kids, a national fundraising initiative dedicated to improving the lives of children living in poverty.

From silent discos and afternoon tea events to themed fancy dress competitions and raffle draws, the homes buzzed with laughter, community spirit, and generosity, raising over £700 for the cause in the Central West region.

As this year’s Cash for Kids Day centred on The World’s Biggest Music Quiz, an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ bid for the largest online quiz ever held, residents and colleagues joined in the quiz in the afternoon, while enjoying special themed activities throughout the day.

Every pound raised by Cash for Kids stays local, funding practical grants for community groups, schools and families who need it most. All funds raised from this event will go towards supporting local children who may be at risk over the long summer break, helping to provide meals and safe, engaging activities when they need it most.

Paula Ritchie, Care Home Manager at Kelvinside Manor Care Home said: “We’re regular supporters of Cash for Kids as it’s such a worthy cause with every penny raised going directly to children who need it most in our local area. Earlier this year some of our residents went along to present the team with a cheque following a Christmas fundraiser – and to give a wave to lovely George while the breakfast show was live on air!

“So, when we heard about the activity day and the world record attempt, we just had to get involved. It was a fantastic day with plenty of singing and dancing – we couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part.”

Ciara Robertson, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids said: “We are so grateful to Meallmore for their continued support, throughout Mission Christmas and now for our Cash for Kids Day campaign. Six care homes across the West of Scotland took part in fundraising activities, including a silent disco at Kelvinside Manor which we were proud to visit.

“This kind of fundraising is so valuable to us, and with every pound raised local staying local, Meallmore is helping to fight child poverty within their own communities. This funding will go directly to supporting disadvantaged children to receive food and activities during the Summer Holidays, which they otherwise would not have access to.”
