Westerham Care Home Supports Work Experience Students with Special Needs

Westerham Place care home has supported two young students with speech and language difficulties, by offering them work experience in the home.

15-year-olds Tom and Isobel, who attend Moorhouse School, had struggled to find placements in the area when the care home opened its doors to offer them the ideal five-week opportunity.

Tom and Isobel have joined the activities coordinators to help to plan fun and stimulating activities for the residents including balloon tennis and flower arranging, which is a favourite amongst the residents.

Isobel said: “I would like to say thank you to the home for letting me come in and do work experience. I have really enjoyed helping the residents and meeting the staff.  It has really helped me build my confidence, I have really enjoyed my time here”

Tom said: “I’ve had so much fun and I have learned a lot from my placement. All the staff are amazing and the residents are lovely, Thank you Westerham Place!”

Claire Davis, home manager at Westerham Place, said: “It saddened me to learn that Tom and Isobel were unable to find somewhere to carry out their work experience placements and I knew I wanted to help.

“Our care home is full of people from all walks of life, and our welcoming atmosphere is the perfect place to kick-start someone’s learning in the world of work.

“The residents have thoroughly enjoyed Tom and Isobel’s company and our doors are always open for more visits in the future!”
