Spark Care Brings Less2Care’s Continence Waste System to UK and Irish Care Homes
Spark Care, the care technology partner focused on safer, calmer and dignity-first care environments, has been appointed exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Less2Care, the Dutch company behind a complete system for collecting and containing continence waste in care settings. Less2Care’s approach is already used in more than 2,000 care locations across Europe.
Spark Care’s first focus is specialist dementia care, where strong smells and an unsettled sensory environment can affect residents most, and they may not be able to say why. To mark the launch, it’s offering care homes a four-week pilot. The equipment is loaned, the Spark Care team checks in every week, and the home only pays for the bags it uses. At the end of the four weeks, the home decides whether to keep it.

In most care homes, a pad is changed with care and discretion behind a closed door. It’s then carried down the corridor to the sluice, into a bag that waits until it’s full, and walked out to the bin store. It happens many times a day, on every unit and every shift.
Each journey takes a carer away from residents. Open bags let odour into shared spaces. Sluices and macerators weren’t designed for today’s continence products, and when they break down, the pressure falls on the team. And every time waste is handled again, good infection prevention depends on everything going right.
With Less2Care, carers take a hands-free collection trolley, the Iso-Safe, with them during continence care. Used pads go straight in at the point of care, and the trolley seals shut. Afterwards, the bag goes to the Iso-Air, where it’s vacuumed and sealed airtight, ready for the bin store.
Bags come in tiger stripe for offensive waste and orange for infectious waste, so the system works with the waste streams care homes already use.
Dutch national infection prevention guidance, published in 2025, rates this approach as lower risk for contamination, spillage and odour than macerators and bedpan washers.
“Continence care is some of the most personal care anyone receives. When we visited Less2Care in the Netherlands, it felt like a genuine meeting of ethos. What struck me wasn’t the equipment. It was how simply it fits into a shift, and how much walking it takes out of a carer’s day. That’s what we want for care homes here. Fewer journeys, fresher corridors, and a routine that protects people’s dignity from start to finish.”
Nadia Morris, Founder and CEO, Spark Care
For care teams already using the system, the difference shows up in everyday moments, including mealtimes.
“After an enthusiastic start with the Iso-Air, we soon received the nicest compliment from the wards: residents were able to smell their food again, rather than unpleasant odours, and could once again fully enjoy their meals.”
Linda Draijer, Team Manager Facilities and Homecare, Azora, the Netherlands
“We’re incredibly enthusiastic about our partnership with Spark Care. Across the world, care organisations face many of the same challenges, from maintaining high standards of hygiene and managing workloads to reducing unpleasant odours and creating comfortable care environments. Spark Care shares our vision and commitment to improving everyday care for both residents and healthcare professionals. We’re excited to work together to bring our proven concept to care organisations across the UK and Ireland.”
