South London Home Hosts Cultural Day to Celebrate Culture and Community
Staff, residents, relatives and members of the community came together at a South London home as they hosted their third annual cultural day.
MHA Ryelands held their cultural day, which formed part of Care Home Open Week and MHA’s Music Festival.
The day showcased the rich diversity of the home’s team through music, dance, traditional dress and cuisine from around the world.
Colleagues selected and shared songs from their home countries, creating a lively atmosphere filled with singing, dancing and celebration.
Everyone joined in the festivities, enjoying the opportunity to learn more about the different cultures represented within the home.
Amongst the attendees there was the Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Muhammad Sadiq, and the Mayoress Aasia.
The celebrations also featured an international feast, with team members bringing in traditional dishes from their home countries.
Guests enjoyed a variety of culinary delights including jerk chicken, jollof rice, sadza, plantain puff puff and sausage rolls.
MHA Ryelands provides residential and residential dementia care for 50 residents.
Tina Carey, activities co-ordinator at the home said: “This was our latest cultural day and I think our best one yet.
It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and celebrating the cultural diversity we have here at Ryelands.
“Having so many different nationalities, languages and cultures make our home a very special place to live and work, and I feel proud to be part of this amazing international community. I’m already looking forward to next year’s Cultural Day.”
“The event highlighted the inclusive and welcoming spirit that defines life at MHA Ryelands, bringing people together through shared experiences and mutual appreciation of different cultures.
