Middleton Hall’s ‘Living Well’ And Al Fresco Lifestyles Helps Cook Up Another National Award Win

The vibrant community and the extensive range of leisure and recreational facilities at Middleton Hall Retirement Village have been recognised with a major national award.

At the Care Home Awards held recently in London, Middleton Hall was named the winner of the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category* in recognition of its ‘Living Well’ philosophy which aims to ensure its residents live active and fulfilling lives.

The awards aim to be the annual benchmark of excellence and innovation for UK care home management, operations and delivery and “tease out brilliant examples of care providers and outstanding suppliers to the sector, giving them due recognition and celebrating their success at a memorable Awards occasion.”

Middleton Hall, located near Middleton St George, near Darlington, was praised for its “strong community ethos” which “enables and supports residents and staff to live well by providing an environment conducive to social interaction and engagement.”

Tony Crompton, who owns and lives in one of Middleton Hall’s Waterside zero carbon properties with wife Barbara, says: “There’s never a dull moment. Every day is a highlight.”

The 79-year-old retired River Tees pilot starts most days with a visit to the gym, a short stroll from their property, to work out on an exercise bike.

The couple who moved from Stainton almost three years ago say it is the best thing they have ever done outside of having their family with Tony adding: “One thing we never bargained for though, was just how nice the people are here. Everyone is so friendly and we have such lovely friends and neighbours.”

The resident-led week-long event in May featured a display of over 100 artworks created by residents ranging from drawings and paintings to pottery, photography and jewellery.

The quality and extent of the work on show led Joan Hardie, editor of the Northern Potters Association newsletter, to comment: “A most impressive undertaking that has completely changed my view of retirement villages!”

Elaine Wells one of Middleton Hall’s co-owners and Healthy Living Advisor, attended the Care Home Awards lunch and was delighted to return home with the category winner’s trophy.

“It is wonderful to be officially recognised for the unique lifestyle we offer at Middleton Hall and I am very proud to be part of the Middleton Hall team. It’s such a privilege to work with our wonderful residents to help them live active and fulfilling lives and we also have a lot of fun along the way too.”
