Married Couple Of 69 Years Celebrate Valentine’s Day At Sunrise Of Edgbaston
Joe and Olive Ferguson, who have been married for almost seven decades, have been celebrating Valentine’s Day together at Sunrise of Edgbaston.
The couple met in the famous Winter Gardens Ballroom of Blackpool Tower and later married in 1951 in Poulton Le Fylde, near Blackpool, which is where Olive is from. Together, they now have three children and four grandchildren, and have lived at Sunrise of Edgbaston on Church Road for over a year.
On Friday 14 February, Valentine’s Day, Joe and Olive shared a lovely meal organised by staff at Sunrise of Edgbaston in the private dining room. The romantic meal was enjoyed alongside a bottle of champagne and sweet treats that included chocolate covered strawberries and heart-shaped shortbread biscuits. During their lunch date they gifted each other bouquets of roses and handwritten cards.
Joe and Olive have also given some advice on maintaining a loving, peaceful marriage. Olive said “I love that we get along so well… We don’t fight or argue and he puts up with me”, with Joe adding that “I love everything about Olive, she is a good mother and a great cook. The secret to maintaining a happy marriage is patience and keeping busy”.
Zoë Doherty, Director of Community relations at Sunrise of Edgbaston said:
“Joe and Olive are an inspiration to us all, their long lasting love is incredible and their relationship is so lovely. At Sunrise of Edgbaston we always try to make exciting plans for events such as Valentine’s Day and the residents love to celebrate these special occasions!”
