Local Author Finds a New Chapter at Jubilee Court

Jubilee Court care home in Hucknall proudly welcomes resident Alan, a local author and former psychology professor, adding a wealth of knowledge to the community.

Originally from Dorset, Alan pursued his academic journey at the Harvard University, finishing in the completion of his Ph.D. in psychology from Cambridge University in 1962. His remarkable career includes serving as a psychology professor at Nottingham University and holding the respected position of President of the Society for Psychical Research for many years.

Alan’s dedication to parapsychological research earned him the award for Outstanding Contribution from the Parapsychological Association. Additionally, he was honoured with the Myers Memorial Medal by the Society for Psychical Research.

With a passion for exploring the mysteries of the human mind, Alan has written numerous books, five of which have been published and widely recognised as significant contributions to the field.

In October 2022, Alan made Jubilee Court his home, where he has since become an integral part of the community. Beyond his achievements, Alan enriches the atmosphere by sharing his life stories and experiences with both staff and fellow residents. His engaging stories serve as a source of inspiration and pride for the entire Jubilee Court community.

Alan’s influence goes beyond personal narratives; his openness has inspired Jubilee Court to integrate life stories and residents’ experiences into their day-to-day care approach. This innovative initiative aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of each resident, creating a deeper connection and enhancing the overall care experience.

Heather Limb, Deputy Manager at Jubilee Court, emphasizes the importance of recognising the complete person: “Good quality care is about understanding the person as a whole, where they come from, their past experiences, and where they are now. Alan is a great example of an individual who has a wealth of knowledge and experience for something that he once loved, and it is important to celebrate who Alan once was and his achievements.”
