“Just Try My Best And Stay Active” Says Resident At Oadby Home Who Celebrates 105th Birthday

A resident living at a Oadby home who celebrated his 105th birthday says the secret to a long life is to stay active.

Fred Cooper lives at MHA Aigburth and celebrated his 105th birthday with close family.

Fred was born in Birmingham and spent 13 and a half years in the navy as an air electrical mechanic and finishing off as a chief petty officer.

Fred has one son, John and a daughter Ann, and moved to Leicester after he retired to be close to his son.

Fred has been living at MHA Aigburth for eight years and despite being blind still exercises, something he considers key to a long life.

To mark his birthday, the staff at the home decorated his room and presented him with a birthday badge and prepared a birthday cake for him.

Speaking after the celebrations Fred said: “I was very happy with what was arranged for me and want to thank everyone for their hard work.

“Despite not being able to see, I was told my room was decorated for me and it was nice to know what was done.

“My son and daughter in law came to see me and they were very impressed with what had been arranged.

“MHA Aigburth is a very happy place, and I am very happy with the care and support I receive.

“Living to 105, for me it’s about trying my best and staying active. I still exercise with light dumbbells, and I think that does help..

“Again, I want to thank everyone who made my birthday special for me, and it is highly appreciated.”
