Carehome.co.uk Staff Do 10,000ft Skydive, Raising £3,250 for The Care Workers’ Charity

Three members of the carehome.co.uk reviews team jumped out of a plane, raising £3,250 for The Care Workers’ Charity.

Joanna Mason, Katie Doran and Jo Hatter took part in the charity’s ‘Soar for a Cause’ event at GoSkydive in Salisbury.

The Care Workers’ Charity is the chosen charity of carehome.co.uk’s parent company, Tomorrows Guides, and provides financial and wellbeing support to current and former care workers across the UK.

The idea for the challenge began when the team spotted the charity’s skydive event and joked about how much they would need to be paid to jump out of a plane.
They managed to raise £3,250 through sponsorship, a bake sale and a staff raffle.

For Joanna Mason, completing the challenge meant overcoming a major fear:“To say I was scared is an understatement – I was absolutely terrified!

“Everyone who knows me said I wouldn’t do it, not in a million years!

“As terrified as I was, it was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. The feeling of achievement and relief when we landed was off the scale.
“I still can’t believe I actually did it. It was truly unforgettable – although it definitely won’t be repeated!”

Katie Doran said: “On the day, the nerves really got to me. I was unable to eat out of fear of being sick.

“But when the parachute went up, all the fear and anxiety melted away and I was overwhelmed with emotion.”

Jo Hatter managed to remain remarkably calm, she said: “Climbing to 10,000 feet, I still had no nerves – in fact, I felt very chilled out!

“It doesn’t feel like you are falling 5,000 feet in 30 seconds at 125mph. It goes very quickly, then the parachute opens and it’s a slower descent to the landing.

“I am definitely going to do another jump, but next time I’ll go to 15,000ft!”

The team were supported by colleagues, friends and family, with staff donating prizes and buying tickets for the fundraising raffle alongside contributions to the team’s JustGiving page.

Their £3,250 total will support The Care Workers’ Charity’s work helping care workers through financial hardship and providing mental health and wellbeing support.
