Juniper House Residents Celebrate the World Cup with Former Footballer

Residents at Sanctuary Care’s Juniper House Residential Care Home in Worcester have been celebrating the excitement of the World Cup with the help of Wellbeing Assistant Danny Jackman, a former professional footballer with a 20-year career.

Danny began playing at just 16 with Aston Villa and went on to represent clubs including Stockport County, Gillingham, Kidderminster Harriers, Worcester City and Redditch. Alongside his time on the pitch, he also made appearances in care homes and hospitals, sharing his experiences and connecting with people of all ages.

Now at Juniper House, Danny continues to use his passion for football to make a positive impact. He brings compassion to his role and enjoys engaging with residents through shared interests, helping them reminisce and stay active.

With the World Cup underway, football has been a natural way to share conversation and joy throughout the home. “Football is the world’s game,” said Danny. “Everyone either supported a team or had a loved one who did, so it brings back memories and puts a smile on their face – especially during the World Cup.”

Football is truly a game for everyone, and everyone can get involved no matter their ability or experience. To mark the occasion, residents recently took part in a fun football session, where they kicked or threw a ball and shared their favourite football memories. It’s been great to see residents enjoying themselves and sharing those special moments, with plenty of smiles and laughter throughout.
