Ninety-Year-Old Telford Care Home Resident To Feature In Official Liverpool Matchday Programme

A lifelong Liverpool FC supporter who has followed the Reds for more than 80 years is set to see her story shared with thousands of football fans in the official matchday programme.

90-year-old Brenda Stretton, a resident at Telford Hall Care Home in Lawley Village, part of Sandstone Care Group, will feature in the matchday programme for Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on 29 August.

Her appearance comes after she was filmed singing the club’s iconic anthem, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, while reminiscing about her lifelong passion for Liverpool FC. The video, which captured her infectious enthusiasm for the club she has supported since around 1940, was highlighted to the club by staff at the care home.

During her younger years, Brenda regularly went to Anfield, attending many matches each season and following the fortunes of the Reds through generations of players and managers. Her favourite Liverpool players from way back when were Billy Liddell, Bob Paisley and Cyril Done.

Brenda and everyone at Telford Hall were thrilled to learn that her story had caught the attention of Liverpool FC prompting the inclusion in the official programme for the August fixture.

“Watching her sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and share her memories of following the club over the decades was incredibly moving. We are all so proud that her story will be featured in the official matchday programme and we can’t wait to see her reaction when she receives a copy. It’s a fantastic moment for Brenda and one that everyone at Telford Hall will be celebrating with her.”
