Holiday Rescue Mission Leaves Bupa Residents Bowled Over
Bupa care home staff stepped in to save the day after a long-planned weekend break for residents threatened to fall apart at the last minute.
The annual trip to an Ayrshire holiday park is one of the highlights in the social calendar for residents at Bupa’s Ailsa Craig Care Home in Glasgow.
So staff and residents were upset when they discovered a booking glitch meant their visit to Craig Tara Caravan Park might not take place.
However, staff rallied together to organise an alternative, fun- packed weekend which included a lunch, trip to a bowling alley, a musical night out and a seaside outing – perfectly topped off with fish and chips in the sun.
Sheila Margey, home manager at Ailsa Craig, said: “We try to arrange a weekend away every year as the residents really look forward to it. So when it fell through we really had to act fast so that no one would be disappointed.
“The team we have here were fantastic and came up with some great ideas and it was an absolutely fantastic weekend.”
The weekender for the residents kicked off with a visit to Glasgow’s Springfield Quay, starting with lunch followed by a ten pin bowling session at the neighbouring bowling alley.
After a quick trip back to the home for dinner, residents travelled back into the city centre for a showing of ‘Dirty Dancing’ at Glasgow’s King’s Theatre.
The following day a visit was arranged to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow which included afternoon tea in the venue’s coffee shop.
The weekend was rounded off with a sunny day in Largs where residents visited the Viking Exhibition before heading to the local fun fair.
Residents topped off their weekend with the favourite tradition, a fish supper eaten on the waterfront.
Sheila Margey added: “What could have been a really glum weekend for all of us turned out to be one of the best few days we’ve had.
“It’s important to the team here that everyone enjoys themselves, so it was very rewarding for us all to see our residents out and about and having fun.”
