David Cameron to Host Bloomberg Podcast Series on Search for Alzheimer’s Breakthroughs

Former Prime Minister David Cameron is to host a new four-part podcast series examining the latest developments in Alzheimer’s research and the search for new treatments for the disease.

The series, Ending Alzheimer’s, is being produced as part of Bloomberg Talks and will explore developments in the diagnosis, understanding and treatment of Alzheimer’s, while also examining the experiences of families affected by the condition.

Lord Cameron, who is President of Alzheimer’s Research UK, will speak to scientists involved in research into the disease and visit laboratories and universities working on potential new approaches to detection and treatment.

The series will also draw on Lord Cameron’s own experience of Alzheimer’s. His mother, Mary Cameron, died in 2025 after living with the disease.

Lord Cameron first became involved with Alzheimer’s Research UK in 2017, following his time as Prime Minister, during which dementia was made a political priority and efforts were made to increase investment in dementia research.

The first episode of the series, due to be released on 16 November 2026, will see Lord Cameron discuss his mother’s illness with his sisters. They will reflect on her diagnosis, the challenges associated with caring for her and the impact of her death on the family.

Lord Cameron said his involvement in dementia research had initially been driven by his political work, but that the disease subsequently became a personal issue for his family.

“As Prime Minister I made dementia a political priority, leading efforts to double investment in research and putting the issue on the global agenda,” he said.

“It was only after I left office that it became personal too, as my mother started to decline with the disease.”

He said the podcast would examine research and potential breakthroughs in the search for treatments and a cure.

“Although we sadly lost my dear mum last year, the hope is that somewhere, someone alive today could be the first one cured of Alzheimer’s,” he added.

Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait said the series would examine the impact of Alzheimer’s on families while exploring developments in research and treatment.

“An extraordinary number of families around the world have been affected by Alzheimer’s,” he said.

“Drawing on all his experience, both personal and professional, David Cameron shines a unique light on the new research and treatment for this devastating disease – and explains why we are hopefully reaching a turning point.”

Alzheimer’s Research UK Chief Executive Hilary Evans-Newton CBE said the research highlighted in the series demonstrated the progress being made towards improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

She said: “The hope and progress covered in this new podcast series show why we believe that a cure for Alzheimer’s is in sight. But only research will get us there, faster.”

The four-part series will examine the latest research and potential implications for people living with Alzheimer’s and their families, with subsequent episodes focusing on scientists and institutions involved in the search for new breakthroughs.

The first episode of Ending Alzheimer’s is scheduled for release on 16 November 2026.
