Cedars‘ Gold Standard Palliative Care Reconfirmed

Cedars Care Home has been re-accredited as part of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF), and has also received GSF’s Quality Hallmark Award in recognition of its excellent end-of-life care.

Home manager Victor Zingoni and end-of-life lead Debbie Day picked up the award at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony in London, recently.

Victor says: “We are delighted to be reaccredited, but to receive the Quality Hallmark as well is a resounding affirmation of how hard we work to embody the Gold Standard in everything we do. For us it’s a whole home approach, and everyone has a part to play.”

Debbie, who is a qualified Soul Midwife, adds:
“This award means so much to the home and our staff. Our palliative and end-of-life care is personal to the person and family, and each member of the home team works very hard to achieve this, whatever their role.”

“The standard of care and compassionate cultures that have been observed is truly inspiring, showing a commitment to ensuring people receive the right care at the right time which has a positive impact on the people cared for and their families,” says Julie Armstrong-Wilson, Chief Operating Officer for GSF.

With our ageing population it is so important we enable them to live well and when the time comes deliver quality care in their final year/days of life.”

This is the latest accolade for the Southend-based home, which carried off the coveted Support for Family Carers Award at the Palliative and End-of-Life Awards earlier this year. This celebrates exceptional support provided to residents and their families at an emotional time, within ‘a comfortable and welcoming environment’. Cedars was also a finalist in two other categories – the Palliative Residential Care Provider and The Lifetime Achievement to Excellence in Palliative Care Award (for Debbie).
