Caerphilly Care Home Brings Generations Together To Celebrate Global Intergenerational Week

A Caerphilly care home has been opening its doors to children at a local primary school to encourage people from across the generational divide to come together to celebrate Global Intergenerational Week.

HC-One Wales’s Abermill Care Home – located in Abertridwr, near Caerphilly – welcomed children from Nant Y Parc Primary School as it celebrated Global Intergenerational Week, which ran between April 24 and 30.

Children from Nant Y Parc Primary School were invited along to the care home to build relationships with some of its elderly residents at Abermill Care Home.

The care home highlighted the importance of sharing life stories between those young and old. The special week emphasised that experiences can be celebrated with each other, no matter how old you are.

The celebrations started with children aged seven to ten-years-old and, following this, a younger age group joined in with a host of activities, which united the different generations together.

Nant Y Parc Primary School children enjoyed a movement to music session hosted by Abermill’s Wellbeing Coordinators, Debbie Thomas, and Shannon Webb, as well as a movement to music teacher.

Abermill Care Home Manager, Christine Tipper, said:
“It is lovely to see these little relationships developing, heart-warming how kind and thoughtful the children are, looking forward to what progresses.”

Abermill Care Home resident, Jane Lewis, said:
“I really enjoyed interacting with the children, including speaking to them about the history of the village.”
