Watford Nursing Home Starts The Year With High Praise By Industry Inspector

A nursing home in Watford has been rated as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following an unannounced inspection into the quality of service it provides.  The Chase Care Centre, which is part of the Healthcare Homes Group, was inspected between October and December last year, and has since received this positive grading.

Inspectors visited The Chase, which is located on Printers Avenue, and spent time speaking with staff, residents, the relatives of residents and the registered manager. They looked to determine whether the service delivered at the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The home received ‘good’ ratings in all five areas.

The home provides residential and nursing care for up to 110 people, many of whom live with physical disability, dementia and complex needs. Inspectors looked for evidence that the service involved people, and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. They found that “the atmosphere in the service was calm, compassionate and inclusive. We saw warm and meaningful interactions throughout the day between staff and people which were gentle, respectful and kind. People’s body language and facial expressions showed that they were fond of the staff members as they interacted, smiled and communicated with them.”

Inspectors noted the significant investment in creating an environment to support the needs of those with dementia, and the creative, and varied activities on offer for residents.  At the time of the visit they saw a range of activities underway to mark Halloween, and were told about recent 1940s and 1980s-themed events and fundraisers.

Home Manager Ruta Starkute-Nahan said, “We have worked extremely hard over recent months to identify where we can make some real, long-lasting changes to our service that have significant improvements for everyone we care for, but also for our staff, and we are delighted for these steps to be recognised.

“Our goal is to become an outstanding home – that is a leader is exceptional care, and I am very proud to say that we are well on our way to achieving this. Our positive report is the result of the passion and dedication of every team member that works so hard to ensure our residents are happy and well cared for.  I would like to thank them all for everything they do to make The Chase a real ‘home from home’ for everyone that lives here.”
