Warrington Care Home Surprises Loyal Volunteers On 50th Wedding Anniversary

WarringtonA volunteer couple at Holcroft Grange, the CLS-run care home in Warrington, were deeply moved when residents and staff at the home threw a surprise party to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ray and Verner Hopple, who have been volunteering at the residential care home for 11 years, arrived for what they thought would be a routine visit, but were greeted with gifts, champagne and a surprise party to congratulate them on their special day.

The couple visit Holcroft Grange every week, with their guide dog Bunty, to chat with residents and to lend a helping hand with activities and events at the home. No strangers to volunteering, Verner and Ray also do a great deal of charity work in and around Warrington.

Verner commented: “It was a fantastic surprise – we were both so happy that all the residents were there and so excited to celebrate our special day. We’d like to say a big thank you to the staff and residents at Holcroft Grange for the party and the lovely gifts.”

Ray, commenting on the couple’s charitable activities, said: “We think it is important to give something back, and would recommend volunteering to anyone. It’s good to come and speak to the residents and the atmosphere is always really nice.”

Nicola Newens, Activity Coordinator at Holcroft Grange, added: “Everyone at Holcroft Grange would like thank Ray, Verner and Bunty for all their hard work and involvement with the home. Their selfless efforts have a hugely positive impact on the lives of our residents and never fail to brighten up their days. The surprise party was the least we could do to show our appreciation for their kindness, and we were delighted share in the celebrations on their special day.”
