Two Roker Care Homes Bring Communities Together As Residents Complete Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk

Residents and colleagues from HC-One’s Falstone Manor and Falstone Court care homes, in Roker, Sunderland, bring communities together to participate in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.

The participants laced up their walking shoes on Saturday, October 5, to complete the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk, where they demonstrated an ongoing commitment to support vital dementia research and care. The annual charity walk, which has become a much-anticipated event at Falstone Manor and Falstone Court, took place in the beautiful seaside town of South Shields, located in the North East of England.

For the residents and colleagues, the walk is not just about fundraising, but also an opportunity to engage with the local community and raise awareness about the challenges of living with dementia. Each year, the team’s at both care homes look forward to this meaningful event, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society – a charity that works tirelessly to support those affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

All participants started at Bents Park, where they chose between walking either 1.7km or 7km, all with the goal of raising £160 to contribute to the charity’s ongoing efforts. Along the seaside route, residents, colleagues, and fellow participants enjoyed the invigorating sea air while taking in stunning views of the coast.

Emma Crithclow-Riley, Falstone Court Care Home Manager, commented:
“It’s heart-warming to see both our residents and colleagues come together for such a fantastic cause. The Memory Walk is an event close to our hearts, and we’re always amazed by the sense of community spirit, and the enthusiasm from the team here at Falstone Manor and Falstone Court.”
