The Activities Team At Hamble Heights Care Home In Fareham Has Won The Ladder To The Moon Award For Evidence Of Outstanding Activities

For the second year in a row, Hamble Heights has been Highly Commended by Ladder to the Moon, the organisation that provides workforce and service development to enable health and care organisations to develop active, creative and vibrant care services.

Vanessa Duggan (Activities Coordinator) and Zoe Morris (Activities Assistant) entered their Ladder to the Moon monthly projects into the competition and the judging panel awarded Hamble Heights the winners of this prestigious award.

The first project entered was the Coffee House Box. For this project, Hamble Heights created a themed trolley filled with different types of drinks and snacks, which visited every resident in the home with the help of the Home Manager and Deputy Manager. Themes included the cocktails trolley, sweet treats and afternoon tea. The themed trolley was such as success that it is now a monthly feature in the home.

The second project was called Tour De France Box. For this project, Vanessa and Zoe made flags from around the world with the residents. They enjoyed French-inspired cuisine, such as crepes and red wine.

The third project sent by Ladder to the Moon was called Marvellous Motoring. The Activities team took the box to each resident and talked about where they had been on holidays, what transport they used and what they enjoyed most about their trips. The residents at Hamble Heights also enjoyed a wonderful picnic with old fashioned flasks and picnic hampers. The residents enjoyed helping to prepare the spread by making the sandwiches.

Hamble Heights’ Activities Team has been recognised for its creativity, enthusiasm and dedication in bringing smiles to our residents’ faces every day with fun and engaging projects, activities and events. Vanessa Duggan, winner of the regional award for Best Activities Cooirdinator in The Great British Care Awards, says:

“I love working with the residents and getting to know them all.  Every day is different and it is so heart-warming and rewarding when I see our residents smiling and enjoying themselves. We are delighted with the award for Evidence of Outstanding Activities for the second year running!”
