Tegfield House Were Honoured To Be Chosen By The National Citizen Service!
Residents and staff at Tegfield House, residential care home in Winchester, were honoured to be approached and then chosen by two groups from The National Citizen Service, who kindly took part in fundraising events to purchase gifts that benefit the home and their residents.
Tegfield House welcomed the first group from the NCS into their homes at the beginning of last week where the 15 – 17 years olds spent two days taking part in a wide variety of fun-filled activities with their residents. These included arts & crafts, reminiscing, board games and afternoon tea outside in the sunshine.
At the end of the two days, the NCS group kindly donated three Toshiba laptops to the home, alongside three sets of accessories to go with them. Residents and staff were stunned with the generosity of such young people and were absolutely delighted to be able to spend the time spent with them.
A member of the first group, Mollie Johnson commented: ‘The project has been extremely close to my heart. It is great to see the work that is done here and be able to give a little back to the community in which we live in’.
Sam Reers, another member of the group, went on to say: ‘it is great to be able to help people who are quite often forgotten about within today’s society’.
At the beginning of August residents and the care teams at Tegfield House were delighted to welcome the second group from the NCS who carried out a sponsored walk and raised an amazing sum of £725 for Tegfield House!
Together the sponsored walkers, the residents and the staff spent two hours purchasing a large amount of activities equipment for the residents to use as part of maintaining an active and healthy life. Before they said their goodbyes, everyone enjoyed a lovely hot cup of tea and a chat in the homes comforting lounge.
Bryony, a member of the second group said: ‘Thank you for allowing us to experience that amazing opportunity. I loved spending time with all of the residents and it was lovely to see them so happy and content. I hope you all enjoy your gifts!’
Shirley Bartlett, the Home Manager of Tegfield House invited both group to join them on 20th August to celebrate Hartford Care Family Day with them. She then went on to say: ‘We feel so very privileged that the NCS chose us. The groups that attended were so polite and interacted so well with all the residents and it was great to be part of this experience. The generosity of these young people was so overwhelming. They not only donated three lap tops with the money they raised fundraising but also a huge bundle of DVD, games, percussion instruments which I know will be very much enjoyed. We appreciated what you have done and we are very happy to have supported such an amazing scheme. The comments you left us are heartwarming. Thank you from everyone at Tegfield.
