Suzie And Her Live-In Care Worker Complete Race For Life

A former primary school teacher who lost her sight after being struck down with meningitis has completed Race for Life with the support of her Live-in Care Worker.

Suzie Prince completed the 5K race in Newbury with her Care Worker Zoe Hunt, who guided her around the course. The pair took part in the event on Sunday 2 July to raise money for Cancer Research UK as both of their 86-year-old grandmothers were previously diagnosed with breast cancer.

Suzie said: “Thanks to the incredible research and treatment available for people with cancer, our grandmothers are both well after being treated for breast cancer. We wanted to take part in this event to raise money for further research. We are so pleased that we raised £450.”

Live-in Care Worker Zoe, who works for Radis Community Care, supports Suzie with everyday tasks so that she is able to live as independently as possible in her own home.

“Our training programme was a bit hit and miss but we started walking more over recent weeks, said Zoe. “I personally found the walk tough as it was the first time I’d guided Suzie for such a distance. Suzie’s dad told me that to see her take part in the event was amazing for him considering just a few years ago she was in a coma after contracting meningitis. I’m incredibly proud of what Suzie and I have achieved together this year.”
