Strictly No Falling At Longmoor Lodge Care Home

LONGMOOR Lodge Care Home has achieved the coveted Strictly No Falling certification from Age UK Derby and Derbyshire.

The award is supported by Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.

Strictly No Falling certification recognises the Derbyshire based care home’s commitment to reducing residents’ risk of falling.

The award was introduced to encourage a wider range of services and information aimed at improving mobility, balance and strength among older people.

It is open to adult care and leisure services, the voluntary sector and housing associations, among other health and social care organisations across Derbyshire.

Janie Sheldon, activities coordinator at Longmoor Lodge Care Home, on Longmoor Lane, attended training at Chesterfield Walton Hospital to achieve the award.

Janie said: “The award involved the theory behind physical activity and ageing as well as chair based exercises and routines to improve strength and mobility and reduce the chances of falling.

“We run structured chair based exercise sessions at the home that have helped residents improve their posture, coordination, circulation, increased their range of movement, strengthen important muscle groups and have fun at the same time.”

Samantha Ely, home manager, said: “Anything we can do to help reduce the occurrence of falls is vitally important and Janie’s training has proved hugely beneficial to our residents.

“We are now putting other staff members through the training to enhance the activities and services available in Longmoor Lodge Care Home.”
