Stockport Care Home Hosts ‘Dog Show’ For Retired Crufts Judge Resident
HC-One’s Newlands Care Home, in Heaton Moor, Stockport, held its very own dog show where a resident judged 14 dogs across ten categories.
When Newlands care home resident Susan Chambers moved into the home, she revealed that she would love to attend a dog show. This led the care home to bring her wish to life with an in-house ‘Newlands Dog Show’, with 14 dogs competing for grand prizes.
At a residents Committee Meeting, which took place earlier this summer, residents were asked if anyone had any hidden talents. Newlands resident, Susan Chambers, revealed that if Newlands held a dog show, she could judge it as she is a certified Crufts Judge.
Susan used to go around the country to dog shows, and she has bred dogs all her life. Originally, Susan wanted to attend a dog show in North Wales which was due to take place in July, however, she was unable to attend the show.
This was the perfect opportunity to hold an event for everyone to enjoy at the residential and nursing care home. On Friday, July 30, Rachel Glindon, Wellbeing Coordinator at Newlands, helped organise a show which welcomed four-legged friends owned by colleagues, relatives and friends.
There event saw 14 beautifully groomed dogs parading about in the home’s lounge, and residents enjoyed singing a rendition of ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’.
Prizes were given in ten different categories, which included:
- ‘Waggiest Tail’ – won by Hetty
- ‘Prettiest Pooch’ – won by Ollie
- ‘Best Rescue Story’ and ‘Best Trick’ – both won by Sukey and her perfect singing
- ‘Puppy Love’ – won by Mini
- ‘Best fancy dress’ – won by Pablo who sported his Peaky Blinder flat cap
- ‘Old Timer’ – won by Teddy
- ‘Best Cross’ – won by Greta and Inka who are a crossbreed of a terrier Dachshund
- ‘Most like Owner’ – won by Asher
Newlands care home resident, Susan Chambers, said:
“‘Every dog looked so good, beautifully groomed lovely coats healthy with a few needing their nails clipped – I have never judged anything like this before and it was great fun. Lovely to get so many dogs to cuddle and stroke.”
Newlands care home Wellbeing Coordinator, Rachel Glindon, added
“Every dog was so well behaved! We had no falling out, and everyone involved had a good afternoon! We are looking forward to Newlands Dog Show 2025.”
