Hartford Court Residents Enjoy Garden Makeover After Activity Coordinator Wins £1,500 Prize

Residents at Hartford Court Care Home in Cramlington are enjoying a beautiful new garden space after Wellbeing Coordinator Ann Callan won the home a £1,500 garden makeover competition.

Ann, who is passionate about creating meaningful activities and experiences for residents, entered the competition with home furnishings retailer Dunelm, explaining how much the garden would mean to residents at Hartford Court – particularly those living on the home’s dementia floor.

Having previously helped raise funds alongside colleagues and residents for a summer house in the garden, Ann knew that new garden furniture would be the perfect finishing touch to the outdoor space.

Ann was delighted when she discovered that her entry had been selected as the winning submission, giving her the opportunity to choose £1,500 worth of garden furniture and accessories for the care home.

Once everything had been delivered, a team from Dunelm visited Hartford Court to assemble the new garden items, transforming the outdoor area into a welcoming and comfortable space for residents to enjoy.

The Dunelm team also took the opportunity to meet some of the residents once the makeover was complete, making the occasion even more special.

Ann Callan, Wellbeing Coordinator at Hartford Court Care Home, said: “I was absolutely delighted to win the competition. Our garden is such an important space for our residents, especially those living with dementia, and we wanted to create somewhere that felt welcoming, comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

“We had already worked hard to raise money for our summer house, so the new garden furniture really has finished the space off beautifully. It was fantastic to see the Dunelm team come along and put everything together for us, and our residents were thrilled to see the finished garden.”
