Rose Court Care Home Celebrates African Culture with Vibrant Community Event

Residents, families and colleagues at Rose Court Care Home in Radcliffe, Manchester came together for a vibrant African Day celebration, as part of the Year of Culture alongside Napa, celebrating diversity, heritage and the different cultures that make the home community so special.

The event was inspired and led by members of the Rose Court team who originate from different parts of Africa. They worked together to create a meaningful celebration, sharing their traditions, food, music and personal experiences with residents and colleagues.

Ahead of the event, residents enjoyed getting creative during arts and crafts sessions, making colourful feathered headdresses to wear during the celebrations. The handmade creations added to the joyful atmosphere and helped residents feel fully involved in the special occasion.

The home was filled with the sounds, flavours and traditions of Africa, with the kitchen team preparing a delicious traditional meal of jollof rice and chicken for residents and colleagues to enjoy. The authentic flavours provided a great opportunity for everyone to try something new while sharing conversations and memories together.

Colleagues embraced the celebration by wearing traditional African clothing, while one team member delighted everyone with a traditional African dance performance. Residents, families and staff joined in by clapping, singing and dancing along, creating a wonderful atmosphere of togetherness.

The celebration was a fantastic example of Rose Court’s commitment to inclusion and recognising the diverse backgrounds of its residents, families and colleagues. It gave everyone the opportunity to learn about another culture, celebrate shared experiences and create lasting memories together.
