A care assistant at a North London home marked her 20-year service and says it’s the residents that have kept her here.
Barbara Maletta works at MHA Ryelands and was presented with her long service award by home manager Solomon-Paul Ekuase.
Barbara started working at the home in 2004 and has a long history of working in social care with her working 10 years in another care home.
MHA Ryelands provides residential and residential dementia care for 50 residents.
Speaking after the presentation Barbara said:
“I really enjoy working at MHA Ryelands.
“I live around 20 minutes away from the home and it fits really well with my life.
“I love the home, it’s an amazing place to work, everyone gets along with each other and it’s a great place to work.
“When I joined I didn’t know I would still be here after 20 years, but having spent a lengthy time at another care provider, I am someone who likes to stay in one place.
“We have had some tough times, the pandemic comes to mind but we all stuck together and managed to get through it.
“One piece of advice I was given was always treat residents how you would like to be treated.
“My aim has always been to treat residents with respect and dignity, and to be honest with you, it’s the residents that have kept me here.”
