Residents and Staff at Colwyn Bay Home Make Short Journey to Beach to See Terry Jones Statue

Residents and staff at a Colwyn Bay home made a short journey to the beach to see the new Terry Jones statue.

Four residents were accompanied by four staff members from MHA Coed Craig as they made the most of the lovely weather and decided to spend some time at the beach.

The statue was unveiled last week and had generated a lot of interest, with people queuing for hours to see it and take a picture.

Terry Jones, best known for his part in the British comedy troupe Monty Python, was born in Colwyn Bay.

His family backed a fundraising campaign to have him immortalised in bronze as the nude organist, a recurring character played by him in Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

The team enjoyed the lovely weather and rounded off the visit with an ice cream to cool them down.

MHA Coed Craig provides residential and residential dementia care for 45 people.

Speaking after the visit Hayley Williams, activity coordinator said: “It was a spontaneous trip to Colwyn Bay beach but one that we all really enjoyed.

“I was aware of the new statue and decided to make that part of the visit.

“The beach is around a 10-minute walk from MHA Coed Craig, and with the weather being so nice it turned into a lovely trip.

“Our residents loved it and were very impressed with the statue.

“The beach was really busy, and we had to queue to see the statue, but once we got to see it was worth it.

“We are quite lucky to be so close to the beach and the statue, so the plan is to arrange more visits with other residents.”
