Planning Permission Granted For New £15m Beeston Care Village

PlanningPlanners have paved the way for the development of a £15m care village at a key site in Beeston, Nottingham.

Broxtowe Borough Council has approved the scheme by Charterpoint Senior Living, Peveril Securities and care provider Belong.

Featuring a 75-bedroom care facility, 30 supported living apartments and village centre amenities, including a bistro, which will be open to the public, a hair salon, exercise studio and function rooms, the development will be on part of the former Myford works site on Chilwell Road. The council has previously approved plans for 32 houses, 15 apartments and a convenience food store for a separate section of the site.

Chief Executive of Edwalton-based Charterpoint, Adrian Goose, said: “The care village will offer a range of high-quality care and nursing facilities for people with differing needs.

“Research by leading care operators has shown that care villages provide numerous benefits for older people, including less frailty, reduced rates of depression and potential significant savings in social care costs for local authorities. Care is provided on site, depending on residents’ needs.

“We know that loneliness can be a problem for some older people, and retirement and care communities provide social opportunities, companionship and activities – all of which can improve the health and well-being of residents. We anticipate that this scheme will be a great asset to the community of Beeston and its residents. At the same time, it will provide jobs in Beeston and further enhance the local economy.”

Charterpoint, which is based at Wheatcroft Business Park, specialises in delivering purpose-built senior living accommodation, including care homes, extra care facilities and retirement living.

The care community in Beeston will be run by Belong, a not-for-profit, charitable organisation, that provides a range of care, depending on needs. It aims to provide local people with real choice and alternatives to the traditional care home – creating a vibrant community that will truly engage with Beeston.

It intends to create a Home for Life with specialist nursing and dementia care as provided in other Belong villages.

Belong’s village model is unique in design and successfully supports people to live well until the end of life, while preventing unnecessary hospital admissions and helping couples to remain living together, despite health care problems. Care can be tailored according to need.

Speaking about the new care village and wider redevelopment of the former Myford works site, Peveril Homes’ Director James Smith said: “It is crucial that with the UK’s ageing population, enough high quality care home facilities are built to ensure that those in retirement living receive the finest care possible.

“Coupled with the wider redevelopment incorporating modern apartments, new-build homes and retail, this development will boost Beeston’s economy and make a significant difference on a local level.”
