Orchard Care Homes Introduces Catheter Passports For Residents

Orchard Care Homes, a leading provider of senior living in the UK, with care homes in the North of England and the Midlands, has begun the implementation of catheter passports into their homes.

Orchard is committed to the promotion of health and resident inclusion in the excellent level of care provided across all 24 homes. For this reason, the passports, that are often seen in originations such as the NHS, will provide crucial information and support for residents with an indwelling urinary catheter, and carers to help prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections and hospital admissions.

The Urinary Catheter Passport has been developed to ensure catheterised service users receive the optimum standard of care by improving communication between the individual, carers and hospital.

The passport, that residents will own themselves, will act as a resource for the care home staff to enable them to provide exceptional individualised care plans and produce positive resident outcomes based on evidence and aims to encourage residents to take an active part in their care by encouraging information sharing, informed decision making and inclusion.

Hayden Knight, CEO of Orchard Care Homes, acknowledged the recent announcement commenting, “The introduction of catheter passports throughout the homes ensure residents are permanently equipped with their personal health passport which reassures those individuals that their health and care is always a priority”.
