MP Tobias Ellwood Attends Local Care Home’s Dog Show Residents Celebrate National Dog Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Upton Bay care home in Hamworthy got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated all the wonderful things about man’s best friend on National Dog Day, August 26th.

National Dog Day is an annual event to raise awareness of the number of dogs in rescue centres and to encourage people to adopt dogs from shelters and dog homes.

Residents had a brilliant time at their dog show organised by Karen Grant, Wellbeing Activities Lead held in association with Caring Canines and Chairman Sue Dennet. We were delighted that local MP, Tobias Ellwood attended the afternoon and judged the Best in Show category.

Tobias Elwood said: “I have always looked after dogs, we had them when I was growing up and they are such good company, I love how funny and loyal they are. As a patron of Caring Canines; I was only too happy to join in and help judge.”

General Manager, Mevin Sohorye said: “Our residents love animals and lots of them have owned dogs in the past, so it was lovely to watch them enjoy petting and help judge categories such as ‘Prettiest Bitch’.
