Mayor ‘Goes To The Movies’ At Moorfield House

18474The Lord Mayor of Newcastle was given the red carpet treatment as he marked the opening of a traditional cinema at a Gosforth care home, made possible thanks to a kind donation.

Councillor Ian Graham was welcomed by staff and residents at Moorfield House, which is operated by Akari Care, to mark the refurbishment and opening of the ‘Halford Cinema Room’.

The cinema room was made possible thanks to the family of former resident, Elsie Halford, who recently passed away, who donated funds to go towards the construction of the cinema, which was named in honour of her and her family.

Steve Clayton, responsible for the maintenance at Moorfield House, transformed one of the rooms at the home into a cinema for residents, which includes theatre-style curtains and an old fashioned popcorn machine.

Derrick Tait, home manager at Moorfield House, said: “The refurbishment looks fantastic and the residents are really excited about using the facility. We are extremely grateful to the Halford family for making the cinema room possible with their kind donation. Elsie was a popular resident here and her legacy will live on in the form of the Halford Cinema Room.

“Special praise must also go to Steve who has worked tirelessly to create such an enjoyable environment for our residents, which will bring back memories from when our residents visited the cinema and theatre over the years.

“It was great to welcome the Lord Mayor to the home and we would like to thank him for giving the cinema room his seal of approval on what was a fantastic day for everyone here at Moorfield House.”

Located on Kenton Road, Gosforth, Moorfield House provides nursing care for up to 35 elderly residents.
