Longfield Win Bronze and Silver Awards at Maldon in Bloom Gardening Competition

The people who live and work at Longfield Care Home in Maldon have been praised for their green-fingered skills after picking up not one, but two awards at the Maldon in Bloom Gardening Competition.

The Maldon in Bloom competition is hosted annually to celebrate gardeners and budding artists in the local community. In this year’s awards, there were seven categories people could enter their designs into, which included; Allotment Plot, Community Garden, Decorated Business, Front Garden, Hanging Basket, Planter, Residential Care Home Garden and School Garden or Allotment.

Gardening is a shared hobby amongst many of the people who live at Longfield, so everyone is always keen to get creative with helping out in the garden, creating things they can display, and planting a range of different colourful flowers. Each year, the people living and working at Longfield enter the Maldon in Bloom Competition to show off their gardening talents and see if they can take home one of the coveted awards.

This year, in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, the Maldon in Bloom Competition called for all entries to be themed around the jubilee.

Everyone at Longfield had already been working on a Jubilee Garden as part of their celebrations of The Queen, so when they saw this was a category in the Maldon in Bloom Awards, they began working extra hard to make it a bright and inviting place and to see if they could scoop an award!

Margaret, who is a Carer at Longfield, also decided to enter one of the categories with her own hanging basket creation.

It was a tense wait whilst the winners of each category were being announced, but when Longfield was called as the winners in not one, but two categories, their nerves were eased and there were smiles all around.

Residents were ecstatic when they heard their Jubilee Garden had been given a Silver Award at the competition and Margaret was equally happy seeing her hanging basket receive a Bronze Award.
