Local Care South Care Homes Join Forces For Alzheimer’s Walk
Staff from two Care South care homes, Queensmead in Christchurch and Buxton House in Weymouth have raised over £500 for the Alzheimer’s Society. The team took part in the annual ‘Together for Alzheimer’s’ family walk and fun run, on the 24th September, which started at the natural amphitheatre set in front of Southsea Castle.
Queensmead’s Home Manager, Emma Cotton, Deputy Home Manager, Tracy Walker and Receptionist Rebecca Arnell, walked the walk with Buxton House Home Manager, Janine May and arrived in Portsmouth. The team enjoyed the Zumba warm up before finally setting off at 11am on the 10km walk.
Celebrity spotting along the way, the Care South team were excited to share their walk with EastEnders star, Emma Barton, who plays Billy Mitchell’s wife and was born and raised in Portsmouth. The team powered through their walk in an hour and a half.
The walk was a true success and a great atmosphere with over 3,000 supporters walking for Alzheimer’s. Emma Cotton, Home Manager at Queensmead commented: “I am so proud, we raised a fantastic £500 between us and we really enjoyed the day, I walked for a world without dementia and it was great to have taken part! We are already looking forward to signing up next year.”
Buxton House Home Manager, Janine May said: “It was a great day and the weather was stunning. I really enjoyed taking on the challenge with my colleagues from other Care South homes. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us!”
