Local Care Provider Gets The Community Dancing For Dementia UK

LocalLocal in-home care provider, Caremark Bromley, hosted a ‘Time for a Cuppa’ bake sale, raffle and live music event, in aid of Dementia UK. Elderly clients were invited to bring friends and family along to the free event, where they enjoyed tea, cake, prizes and a spot of dancing too! Caremark raised over £200 for the worthwhile cause.

Time for a Cuppa, a fundraising campaign headed up by Dementia UK, encourages individuals and organisations to host tea parties, to raise funds for Admiral Nurses. In an effort to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause, Caremark Bromley planned a bake sale and raffle, inviting care workers, clients, friends and family to join them on Wednesday 1st May at the Bertha James Day Centre in Bromley.

For those clients who often find it difficult to leave the house, or don’t have loved ones living nearby, Caremark even arranged a pick-up and drop-off service. Clients who had no other way of travelling to and from the event were collected at a convenient time, before being driven home at the end of the afternoon.

“We’re aware that some of our clients aren’t getting out and about as often as they would like – for many, our care worker visits are the only human interaction they get,” explained Laura Merryweather, Recruitment Coordinator at Caremark Bromley. “We were adamant they would be included, so we put the service in place to lend a hand.

“Supporting those who need it most is a real priority to us at Caremark and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves. A number of our clients are directly affected by Dementia and my own father suffers from the condition, so the charity is very close to our hearts. We’re really proud to have raised so much for the charity and want to thank everyone for coming along on the day and helping us in our efforts.”

All in all, 70 guests enjoyed the afternoon with a local pianist providing the entertainment – a few of the attendees even took the opportunity to join in singing and dancing. Handmade treats were donated by Caremark Bromley’s team of care workers and local cake maker, Mix it Up Cakes.

Comments from clients included, “how wonderful it is to see everyone enjoying themselves so much” and “the day was wonderful.” Following on from the successful fundraising event, Caremark Bromley look to plan similar initiatives in the future.
