Linden House Marks African World Heritage Day with Cultural Celebration
Linden House Care Home joined in the global celebration of African World Heritage Day on 5th May, paying tribute to the rich and diverse cultural traditions of the African continent and recognising the important contributions of its international staff.
The day, established by UNESCO to celebrate Africa’s unique cultural and natural legacy, presented a meaningful opportunity for the care home to highlight the backgrounds of its team members—many of whom hail from across the globe, including African nations such as Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
Like many in the care sector, Linden House relies on the dedication and skill of overseas professionals to help bridge staffing gaps in the UK workforce. The home took this occasion to shine a spotlight on the heritage of those who play such an integral role in the daily lives of residents.
Staff members from Nigeria and South Africa generously gave their time to speak with both colleagues and residents about their homelands—sharing personal stories, cultural traditions, and experiences. From music and customs to the vibrant history of their regions, the talks offered residents a window into lives and cultures far beyond their own.
“We wanted our team members to feel truly valued and included,” said a spokesperson for Linden House. “This celebration not only recognised their backgrounds but brought so much joy to our residents, who loved learning something new and connecting on such a personal level.”
