Lincolnshire Care Home Residents To Compete In Annual Harvest Festival

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT)The region’s best home-baked goods, handicrafts, vegetables and floral displays were showcased in Lincolnshire this week, as 100 care home residents came together to showcase their work.

On Thursday 3rd September, The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), one of the UK’s largest not-for-profit care providers, will hosted its fifth annual Harvest Festival at The Venue in Navenby from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

As part of the event, residents from 15 county care homes displayed a selection of flower arrangements, preserves, vegetables, baking and crafts, with an award for ‘Best In Show’ awarded to each category. Residents will also enjoyed a harvest themed lunch and a service conducted by Rev. Susan Williams.

OSJCT Trustee, Jill Hughes, judged the entries, alongside OSJCT Head of Volunteering, Lee Palmer, OSJCT Communications Coordinator, Lisa Lawlor; and members of OSJCT’s operations team.

Jill Hughes also presented the results of the Trust in Bloom Competition 2015, which highlighted the best care home gardens in the county.

Anita Rudd, OSJCT’s Lincolnshire Activities and Volunteer Manager, said: “Our residents enjoy this annual event, as it’s an opportunity to not only socialise and showcase their hard work, but to also get back involved with an old hobby, like gardening or baking.”

“Last year’s event was fantastic, and this year’s was even better. The residents worked really hard on their displays, and it was great to see them all on show at the event! A lot of time and effort definitely went into each entry!”
