Inquiry Holds First Preliminary Hearing For Sixth Investigation: The Care Sector Across The UK
Today Tuesday 19 March 2024, will see the Covid Inquiry hold the first preliminary hearing for its investigation into the Care Sector across the UK (Module 6).
At preliminary hearings, the Inquiry Chair makes decisions about how investigations will run. The Inquiry does not hear evidence at these hearings. There will be submissions from the Counsel to the Inquiry and Core Participants to help prepare for the public hearings, where evidence will be heard.
The sixth investigation will consider and make recommendations on the consequences of government decision-making on those living and working within the care sector. It will also consider the steps taken in adult care and residential homes to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and examine the capacity of the adult care sector to respond to the pandemic.
Campaign groups, John’s Campaign, Care Rights UK and Patients Association are Core Participants in the Inquiry module and will be represented by the human rights team at law firm Leigh Day as they seek to ensure the voices of people needing care, their families and care providers are fully heard.

Preliminary hearings can be viewed on the Inquiry’s YouTube channel, subject to a three minute delay.
The inquiry will publish a transcript of the hearing on the same day it concludes. A recording of the hearing will be published on the Inquiry’s website at a later date. Alternative formats, including a Welsh language translation, are available on request.
