Hugh Myddelton Care Home Wins Gold In Enfield In Bloom 2026!

Hugh Myddelton Care House in Southgate has been awarded Gold in the “Best Communal Gardens” category at the Enfield in Bloom 2026 competition.

The awards celebration took place at the Chicken Shed Theatre, where the care home received a certificate from the Mayor of the London Borough of Enfield, Emma Supple, alongside category sponsor George Kassouris.

The home’s journey began three years ago, when staff and residents set out to transform the garden into a more beautiful, colourful and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. The home entered the competition for the first time last year and achieved Silver. This year, the team made a promise to the late Pat Shackleton, a much-loved volunteer, that they would bring Gold home, and they have now done so.

The home said the achievement would not have been possible without the support of residents, staff, families and everyone who contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm to the garden.

Tribute was paid to Ms Shackleton, whose dedication, hard work and passion for the garden will never be forgotten. The team knew how much winning Gold would have meant to her, making the achievement especially emotional, and said they were proud to have fulfilled their promise.

Mansukh Chander, General Manager at Hugh Myddelton Care House, said: “We are incredibly proud to support our local community and to have our hard work recognised by the Enfield Council. It is a real pleasure to work alongside such wonderful people who share a love of gardening and take pride in making our surroundings beautiful. This achievement is a testament to the enthusiasm, teamwork and dedication of everyone involved.”

Activities Coordinator Gunel Bayramova and Head of Maintenance Miguel Almeida added: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive this award and bring Gold home to Hugh Myddelton Care House. This Gold is for you, Pat. You will always be part of our garden and our story.”
