Hitchin MP Alistair Strachen Visits Milford Lodge to Congratulate Dementia in Care Awards Finalists

Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin welcomed a special guest this week as local MP Alistair Strachen visited to meet and congratulate the home’s two finalist teams ahead of the Dementia in Care Awards taking place on 24 June at the Hilton Bankside, London.

The 60 bed residential home, which includes an 18 bed specialist dementia environment known as Sycamore, has been celebrating a remarkable double achievement. Both the Sycamore Dementia Care Team and the Engagement & Wellbeing Team have been named finalists for their outstanding dedication, compassion, and creativity in supporting residents living with dementia.

During his visit, MP Strachen spent time with members of the Sycamore Team, learning about their person centred approach and the calm, nurturing environment they create for residents. He praised their commitment to dignity, safety, and emotional wellbeing, noting how their work reflects the very best of dementia care practice.

MP Strachen also met finalists Eliana Ferraris and Devina Kutowaroo from the Engagement & Wellbeing Team, who lead Milford Lodge’s vibrant programme of activities, community links, and creative experiences. From music and arts to sensory sessions and charity events, their work ensures residents remain active, connected, and joyful.

He commended the team for their imagination, energy, and the meaningful moments they create every day.

The home’s manager said, “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised as a double finalist. This achievement is a testament to the compassion, dedication, and teamwork that our staff demonstrate every single day. Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and it is incredibly rewarding to see the hard work and commitment of the entire team acknowledged in this way. We are also grateful for the wonderful support of our families, whose appreciation and trust mean so much to us. This recognition reflects the warm, caring community we have built together and is something everyone at the home can be immensely proud of.”
