Hamworthy Care Home Residents ‘Buzzing’ To Visit Honey Producer In Corfe Castle

Care home residents couldn’t ‘bee-lieve’ their eyes when they visited a factory in Corfe Castle to learn about how honey is harvested.

Residents at Dorset House care home on Coles Avenue were invited to take a tour of the facilities at Field Honey Farms. The experience was inspired by Ray, a former respite resident at Dorset House, who used to make his own honey and wanted the other residents at the care home to see how it is prepared for sale. Ray was brought to Field Honey Farms by his daughter so that he could enjoy the tour with his friends from Dorset House.

Robert Field, owner of Field Honey explained the steps taken from the wax frames being lifted from the beehives and brought to the factory through to bottling the honey. The residents and care home team also jumped at the chance to taste-test the finished product.

Ray, who previously received respite care at Dorset House care home, said:
“I was really pleased to see David and the other residents again. It was good to see how Field Honey produce their honey, as I used to do it on a much smaller scale with around seven beehives.”

Neil Dominy, Home Manager at Dorset House, said: “It was lovely for Ray to be reunited with his friends from Dorset House at Field Honey Farms so that they could learn all about the honey-making process. At Care South, we are always keen to enable the residents in our care to pursue their interests and share them with the other residents so that they can learn and enjoy spending time together.”

Robert Field, owner of Field Honey Farms, said:
“It was great to welcome the Dorset House residents to have a look around our factory and seeing what’s involved in the process of making the jars of honey. If it has made their day to visit us, then I am very glad that we could make that happen.”
