Salford Care Home Resident, Elsie Goodall, Celebrates 109th Birthday

Elsie Goodall, a resident at Anchor’s Beechfield Lodge in Salford, has celebrated her 109th birthday, a milestone that makes her the oldest resident across Anchor’s entire housing and care portfolio. She marked the occasion surrounded by colleagues, fellow residents, family, and friends.

Elsie was born in July 1917 in her grandma’s house in Salford, and grew up with her two brothers, Ben and Edward.

Elsie has lived at Beechfield Lodge for the past four years and has become a well-known and much-loved figure in the local community. She is a regular at the Royal Sovereign pub, where a table is reserved for her every Friday for fish and chips with fellow residents.

Her birthday celebrations at Beechfield Lodge were filled with cake, candles, and cards from friends and family near and far, and the day was made even more special by a visit from the region’s newly appointed Ceremonial Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Robin Garrido and Mrs Karen Garrido, who joined residents and colleagues to mark the occasion.

At 109, Elsie is the oldest resident across Anchor’s care homes, and among the oldest in the country – a cherished part of the Beechfield Lodge community she now calls home.

Elsie Goodall, resident at Beechfield Lodge, said: “It was a lovely day, and I feel very lucky to have so many people around me. I’ve had a lot of birthdays over the years, but this one felt rather special, with the Mayor and Mayoress coming to see me. I’m very well looked after at Beechfield Lodge, and it meant a great deal to share the day with everyone here.”

Sam Greenwood, Home Manager at Beechfield Lodge, said: “Elsie is such a special part of life here at Beechfield Lodge. She has so many wonderful stories to tell about her life in Salford, and we all feel very lucky to know her. Reaching 109 is an incredible achievement, and we were so pleased to celebrate it with her.”
