Mayor of Rochdale Opens 16-Bed Expansion of Specialist Dementia Community in Middleton
Langfield Care Home in Middleton, Manchester, has expanded its Reconnect specialist dementia community with 16 new bedrooms, increasing capacity for people living with dementia and their families.
The extension was officially opened last week by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Faisal Rana, and Mayoress of Rochdale, Iram Faisal, during a celebration attended by residents, families, colleagues and members of the public.
Langfield Care Home has been part of the Middleton community since 1996 and opened its first Reconnect community in August 2024. The new bedrooms build on this established service and are already welcoming residents.
The expansion responds to growing demand for specialist dementia care, giving local families greater choice and enabling more people to access dedicated support close to home.
Lisa-Marie Hutchinson, Home Manager at Langfield Care Home, said: ‘Seeing our extended Reconnect specialist dementia community open is a very proud moment for everyone at Langfield. The dedication, compassion and determination shown by our team throughout the project has been remarkable.
‘We believe every person living with dementia deserves the opportunity to live with purpose, dignity and the right level of support. Reconnect creates a familiar and supportive environment where residents can maintain their independence, make meaningful choices and continue to live life on their own terms.
‘We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created together, and I have no doubt the extension will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of our residents, their families and the wider Middleton community.’
Guests enjoyed a buffet of homemade food prepared by Catering Lead Jason Hunter, whose menu received plenty of compliments, including from the Mayor and Mayoress.
The Mayor and Mayoress toured the extension, met residents and colleagues, and heard more about the Reconnect approach and the work involved in delivering the project.
Lisa-Marie Hutchinson has also been invited to attend the Mayoral Lounge to receive a Mayoral Badge in recognition of the opening of Langfield Care Home’s extended Reconnect specialist dementia community.
Faisal Rana, Mayor of Rochdale, said: ‘A huge thank you to the team for the kind invitation and for showing me around this truly beautiful home. The care, attention to detail and investment in creating such a welcoming environment are evident throughout. It has been completed to the highest standards, providing a wonderful space for those living with dementia and their families. Wishing the team every success!’
Before leaving, the Mayoress thanked the Langfield team, saying: ‘Thanks for having us today. It’s incredible what you’re doing here. The care you’re providing, and the communities you’re creating, are amazing. You should all be really proud.
