Hambleton Grange Care Home Walk To Success In The Fight For Freddie
A group of caring staff from Hambleton Grange in Thirsk have taken on the highs and lows of the North York Moors to raise money for local youngster, Freddie Thompson. The three-year old was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 4 Neuroblastoma last summer and staff at the home were so moved by Freddie’s braveness in the face of this devastating disease that they wanted to do anything they could to help.
Lifestyle Manager, Nicola Clark, led the fundraising efforts and committed to tackle the tough White Horse to Sutton Bank trek on Sunday 17th March. She rallied other members of staff to join her on the 3.5 mile journey to raise money for Freddie’s potentially lifesaving pioneering treatment in America.
Nicola said: “We met at the White Horse in Kilburn and the weather really wasn’t on our side. It was blowing a gale along the tops but the thought of Freddie kept us going and we knew that we had to finish the walk for him. It was a great sense of achievement when we got to the end and we all headed back to Hambleton Grange for much needed cakes and a hot cup of tea! The residents were very proud and gave us a round of applause when we returned.
It is great that so many members of our team wanted to be involved, and anyone who couldn’t make the walk sponsored us. Being part of something like things brings our community together and I feel proud that we have done our best for Freddie.”
Ann Marsden who lives at Hambleton Grange, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, said: “Nicola did so well to sort it all out. All of us here and the staff are proud of what they have all achieved. To help a young boy and his parents is just tremendous and all our best wishes to go the family.”
So far the home has raised a total of £608.94 and Chief Executive, Matt Lowe, has pledged to match this total in order to raise further funds for Freddie. Matt said, “I am very proud of everyone at Hambleton Grange. They are a dedicated team and a real attribute to the company, it is great to see their commitment to their local community and I am pleased to show our support by matching the funds they have raised. We wish Freddie and his family all the best.”
Hambleton Grange is based on Station Road in Thirsk and makes a real difference to the lives of residents through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces.
