Five In The Running For Wales Care Awards

FivNot just one, but five local people working in the care sector in Neath have been shortlisted for awards from Care Forum Wales.

All five work for care provider Pobl Group in two of the re-provisioned former council care homes in Neath port Talbot and were nominated in the Wales Care Awards for their outstanding achievements in care.

Karen Rogers, Shauna Martin and Clive Sparrow from Llys y Seren were shortlisted in the Leadership and Management in Residential Care Services, Exceptional Newcomer and Commitment to Quality in Housekeeping and Hospitality categories respectively. While Sarah Crimmins and Paul Clements from Plas Bryn Rhosyn are in the running for Excellence in Catering and Commitment to Quality in Housekeeping and Hospitality.

The annual awards celebrate excellence across the care sector in Wales and recognise each nominee’s outstanding commitment to the industry.

Catrin Fletcher, Director of Quality for Pobl Group said: “For five of our dedicated staff to reach the finalist stage is a really proud moment that highlights the standards of service we aim to provide as a group with the positivity and dedication of our care providers.”

With 670 care homes in Wales and the number of nominations in each category extremely high, competition for each award is stiff.

“Our colleagues have really shown they have that special something to have all reached the top 3 nominations.” said Catrin.

Karen Rogers is the Registered Manager at Llys y Seren. She said: “It’s a very rewarding job and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I treat our residents the same as I would like my own relatives to be treated. It’s lovely to see them happy and make sure their lives are fulfilled. I live my life through them. I couldn’t see myself working anywhere else.”

The Wales Care Awards 2018 will take place at City Hall, Cardiff on 19th October 2018.
