Community Comes Together for the Great Ferndown Memory Quest
Parley Place care home in West Parley set up a fun event around Ferndown in the prelude to Dementia Action Week on behalf of Ferndown Dementia Friendly Town.
The Great Ferndown Memory Quest saw participants from local businesses and members of the community come together to solve clues, follow the trail and along the way provide awareness for the support available for those living with dementia and their families in our community.
The Memory Quest set out from Bridgewater Care and local businesses hid clues for the participants to find, businesses that took part in the quest included Pramalife, Plants and Minds, Ferndown and Parley Rotary, Kings Park care home, Fernhill Care home, Promedica 24, Douch Family Funeral Directors as well as Gina Smith, General Manager of Parley Place.
Local businesses including Lewis-Manning Hospice care, The Barrington Theatre, Tesco, Underwood Eyecare, Thomas Jones Memorials, Ferndown Florist all participated with A & E Jolliffe and sons providing tea and cakes for the finish.
One lucky winner from all those who entered the quest won a bottle of bubbly but everyone who took part received a certificate.
Ferndown Dementia Friendly Town is a group of local volunteers and business who meet on a quarterly basis to provide events and sign posting to support their local community.
Gina Smith, General Manager of Parley Place Care Home, said: “Taking part in this challenge was a huge amount of fun despite the hail storm! Everyone coming together to support the community is what Dementia Action week is all about. Dementia touches us in our home but also in our community and we are very glad to be able to do our bit to raise further awareness of support available including our own carer’s support group running on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 2pm.”
