Colleagues Complete Kiltwalk for Charity

Colleagues from Care UK’s Tor-Na-Dee in Aberdeen have raised over £2,000 for Alzheimer’s Scotland after completing an 18-mile walk, and all whilst dressed in kilts!

The seven team members were keen to take part in Kiltwalk’s Mighty Stride challenge, starting in Bellfield Park in Banchory and ending in Aberdeen, and they were especially passionate about raising money for Alzheimer’s Scotland.

“It’s something we all work with really closely,” Care Assistant Daniel Morrison said: “I work in the Dementia Unit at Tor-Na-Dee, and we get to know the residents so well, so if you’re fundraising for something like Alzheimer’s Scotland then you can see the impact you’re making every day.”

The group raised £1,140. Care UK then recognised their hard work by matching their funding and donating £1,000, lifting the group’s total to £2,140 and enabling the charity to provide advice, information and support to those who need it most.

Sue Jones-Wood, Home Manager at Tor-Na-Dee, said: “I am incredibly proud of the team for smashing the £1,000 target and raising an amazing sum for such a vital charity.

“Alzheimer’s Scotland is extremely close to everyone’s hearts here at Tor-Na-Dee. One in three people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime*, which is why it’s important for us to raise funds for such an important cause.

“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to those who took part, to everyone who donated and to Care UK for matching everyone’s fantastic donations.”

Now, the team are looking ahead and planning what they can do next to raise money again.

Tor-Na-Dee’s Lifestyle Lead, Kieasha Morrison, said: “You get to do something amazing, it’s a personal achievement, and you’re also raising funds for a good cause. It was challenging mentally and physically, but everyone would come together and we would power on through. All of us that did it this year are ready to sign up for next year!”

Daniel added: “I think it goes without saying that it was a huge relief to be done. I mean, we were walking for six hours! Everyone was definitely very tired, but I think that makes it feel like more of an accomplishment knowing that there was genuine mental and physical fatigue, and we still got it done together. One of the guys and I are now looking at jumping out of a plane!”

Both also agree that their fundraising has brought the team closer together.

Kieasha said: “It was just really nice to see people outside of work. This was an amazing way to get to know the team a bit better and do something special for charity. If you get the chance to do something like this, just do it.”
