Care Workers Honoured At Awards Ceremony
Care workers from across the UK have been honoured at Shaw healthcare’s annual Shaw Star Awards.
More than 150 people gathered at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Oxfordshire for the annual awards ceremony, which celebrates excellence across Shaw healthcare’s services from its 4,600 care workers.
The team from Cwmcelyn care home in Blaina in Gwent was awarded the title of Best Care Team, beating off competition from other care teams from across the UK. The Cwmcelyn team was chosen for its commitment to improving standards at the home and developing better relationships with its key stakeholders across the whole community.
Manager of Cwm Celyn, Simon Morgan, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been named the Best Care Team at this year’s awards.
“It has been a challenging couple of years for Cwm Celyn, but we have come out the other side and have a team that holds excellent values, has regained trust from health professionals and the local community, and, most importantly, is passionate about delivering the highest standard of care to residents.
“I’d like to thank everyone in the team that has worked so hard to help us achieve this award, and I know that winning it will only spur us on to continue to maintain and improve our standards of care.”
Maitland Park in Camden received the Best Care Home for Dementia Award in recognition of the home’s work in developing person-centred care, which improves the quality of life for residents with dementia, as well as the hard work and dedication of its staff, all of whom are highly trained to care for dementia patients.
Manager of Maitland Park, June Dover, said: “I am delighted that we have been chosen as the best home for dementia care at this year’s awards. Dementia care is a very specialist area of care and we have a fantastic team of staff at Maitland Park who are totally committed to ensuring that residents and their families receive the highest possible standard of care.”
Jen Lovegrove, manager of Kennedy House, a direct access hostel in Leicester, was presented with the Care Innovator Award in recognition of her ‘visionary’ approach to developing the hostel’s services.
She said: “I am very proud to receive the Care Innovator Award. Kennedy House is a fantastic service that offers vital support to the Leicestershire community, and I’m always looking for new opportunities and partnerships that will help the hostel continue to develop.
“Kennedy House celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, and I hope that introducing these opportunities to grow will help secure the hostel’s future for another 20 years – and beyond. It’s fantastic to have my work so far recognised in this way, and winning this award inspires me to keep driving the hostel’s development in the future.”
David Salotti, a staff nurse at Surehaven Glasgow Hospital, was presented with the Registered Nurse Award, a new category at this year’s ceremony. The award recognises excellence in nursing practice, including demonstrating commitment to providing person-centred care that respects the values, needs and desires of residents.
Other winners were selected in categories such as Care Activity, Care Leadership, Inspirational Carer, Care Caterer, Care Supporter, Central Support and Home Administrator of the Year.
