Care Provider Manager Runs London Marathon To Raise Awareness Of Pulmonary Fibrosis

Matt Capener has run his first London Marathon to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis, a disease that occurs when the lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. As a Regional Operations Manager for care provider RMBI Care Co. Matt is aware of the many challenges illnesses can bring upon healthcare users. However, he was also motivated by his brother Mick, whom he lost due to this particular disease.

He says: “My lovely brother, a wonderful bloke who made me laugh till my belly ached, died at the age of 62 after working in the NHS for 40 years. Pulmonary fibrosis ended his life far too soon.”

Matt decided to start training for the London Marathon, running a total of 330 miles over the past months to keep fit. His aim was to raise funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust, which provides personal support to people affected by the illness. “I hate running, but I wanted to raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity,” he adds.

Matt’s target was to raise £250 for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust. When he finally completed the London Marathon, he ended up raising over £2K, approximately 800% more than his initial set target. “Thank you to everyone who has donated! My brother Mick has been with me every inch of the way,” he says.
