Care Home Team Rallies Behind Colleague’s Skydive to Raise Almost £600 for Dementia Charities

A Worcestershire care home has demonstrated its commitment to supporting people living with dementia by rallying behind a member of staff who completed a 10,000ft charity skydive.

Charlie Quiney, a Care Assistant and Housekeeper at The Mill House Care Home, completed her first-ever skydive over Swansea on 24 July to raise funds for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society after being inspired by the residents she supports every day.

Charlie raised £255 for Alzheimer’s Society, while colleagues, residents and families at The Mill House organised a charity car wash before the event. The home also added its own donation, helping to raise a total of £340 for Dementia UK.

Charlie said the challenge was driven by the people she cares for.

“I wanted to do it for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society in honour of all the residents at The Mill House and everyone affected by dementia.

“I was incredibly nervous before the jump, but once I left the plane it became one of the best experiences of my life. Knowing we were raising money for two causes that mean so much to us made it all worthwhile.”

Registered Manager Rebecca (Bec) Rawlings said the fundraiser reflected the caring culture within the home.

“We’re incredibly proud of Charlie for taking on such a huge challenge and raising money for two charities that are very close to our hearts at The Mill House.

“Supporting people living with dementia and their families is at the centre of what we do, so it was wonderful to see the whole home get behind Charlie. Residents, relatives and colleagues all wanted to play their part, whether by supporting the charity car wash or sponsoring Charlie’s skydive.

“It’s a fantastic example of the compassion and community spirit that exists within our team.”
